Audio Doppler Examination

A quick, painless bedside test that listens to blood flow in your foot arteries, in India.

Audio Doppler Examination at Elegance Diabetic Foot & Ulcer Clinic (EDFC), India

An audio Doppler examination for the diabetic foot in India is a quick, painless bedside test that uses a handheld probe to listen to blood flow in the arteries of the foot and ankle, showing whether the circulation is strong enough to heal wounds and avoid amputation. At Elegance Diabetic Foot & Ulcer Clinic (EDFC) it is performed by Dr. Ashutosh Shah (M.S., M.Ch., 22+ years) at our clinics in Surat, Gujarat and Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh.

Why an Audio Doppler Examination Matters

Diabetes silently narrows the arteries of the legs, a condition called peripheral artery disease (PAD). Poor blood flow is a major reason foot wounds fail to heal. The IWGDF 2023 guidelines recommend assessing foot circulation in every person with a diabetic foot problem, and a handheld Doppler is the simplest first step.

How the Audio Doppler Examination Is Done

  • A small amount of gel is applied over the pulse points of the foot and ankle.
  • The probe is held against the skin so you and the examiner can hear the blood flow.
  • A clear, multi-phase (triphasic) sound suggests healthy flow.
  • A weak, single (monophasic) sound suggests narrowed or blocked arteries.
  • Both feet are checked and the findings are recorded. The test is painless.

If the signal is abnormal, we confirm it with an ankle-brachial index test or a duplex vascular scan.

Who Should Get an Audio Doppler Examination

  • Anyone with a diabetic foot ulcer or slow-healing wound.
  • People with cold, pale or discoloured feet, or weak foot pulses.
  • Those with leg pain on walking or pain in the feet at rest.
  • Anyone being checked for peripheral artery disease.

Why Choose EDFC and Dr. Ashutosh Shah

EDFC is India’s first chain of clinics dedicated to diabetic foot care, and circulation is assessed as part of every wound plan, not as an afterthought. Your Doppler result is read within a complete vascular assessment, so blood-flow problems are found and acted on before they cost you a limb.

What Happens After the Examination

Healthy signals mean wound care and prevention can proceed with confidence. Abnormal signals trigger further vascular testing and, where needed, referral for treatment to restore blood flow, alongside expert vascular services and wound management.
