- A small amount of gel is applied over the pulse points of the foot and ankle.
- The probe is held against the skin so you and the examiner can hear the blood flow.
- A clear, multi-phase (triphasic) sound suggests healthy flow.
- A weak, single (monophasic) sound suggests narrowed or blocked arteries.
- Both feet are checked and the findings are recorded. The test is painless.
If the signal is abnormal, we confirm it with an ankle-brachial index test or a duplex vascular scan.
